Reclaimed Wood from Lancaster

In 2008, Emeco reissued the 1006 Navy Chair giving it a carved wood seat. To make the seats, they used a small wood manufacturer in Lancaster PA–near the Emeco factory. In 2009, British designer Michael Young designed the Lancaster collection, a component-based collection incorporating die-cast aluminum seats and backs with solid ash-wood legs. The sculptural form of the chair leg could only be made in durable wood and Emeco decided to take up the collaboration with a local wood manufacturer producing reclaimed ash wood harvested locally from timber in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
