Since 1944, Emeco has built aluminum chairs by hand at our factory in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Forming, welding, grinding, heat-treating and anodizing are just a few of the 77 steps required to craft our aluminum chairs. No one else makes chairs this way. No one else can. It takes a human eye to know when the process is done right, and it takes human hands to get it that way.
Now we have hand picked a curated selection of some our most special handcrafted items from the past twenty years. Created together with architects and designers such as Philippe Starck, Frank Gehry, Norman Foster, Ettore Sottsass and Jean Nouvel, the chairs and stools in our Made-to-Order collections come with heritage built-in.
What truly sets these collections apart is the time we dedicate to build each piece. They are our most intricate and demanding to make, featuring elaborate handcrafting techniques and many hours, and yards, of hand welding. Welds that are then carefully ground perfectly smooth. The hand polishing alone takes 8 hours. Each piece is made-to-order by our most experienced craftsmen. The result: iconic chairs and stools that we guarantee for life.
