purpose
Emeco started in 1944 with a government commission for a particular kind of chair. A chair to withstand the US Navy. Life on a ship is tough. Salt water. Salt air. The occasional torpedo blast. Survival required a very resilient chair. Our solution: The 1006 Navy Chair®. Turns out, what works for one demanding environment also suits many, many others.
We still handcraft our furniture in Hanover, Pennsylvania. In an elaborate 77-step process, we turn ordinary scrap aluminum into furniture of extraordinary strength, built to strong it comes with a lifetime warranty. Like our owner Gregg says: "It's a completely impractical process for a chair. Unless you want a chair that lasts forever."
> how we make them
Owning our impact is not new to us. It's in our DNA. Emeco was founded on the principle "Begin with what's left over. Turn it into what will last". And that's still our north star. Longevity, of design and manufacture. Using recycled materials instead of virgin resources. Sourcing locally. Making locally. Basically, the same things we've been doing since 1944. Of course, back then, we didn't call it 'sustainability'. It was just common sense.
> sustainability
We've always been about functionality. And braving the elements. Aluminum is a great all-weather material, one of its many benefits. Around 90% of our collection is indoor-outdoor, to help you seamlessly furnish interiors and outside spaces that will weather the effects of time, visually and physically. All seasons.
