Wood.

Previously used or responsibly virgin.

You might have noticed the Emeco factory is quite close to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. A place also famous for Amish woodworkers. The Amish believe in simplicity. Preservation of traditional skills and values. They are also a very thrifty community. So we didn’t have to look far for excellent and responsible wood sourcing.

All our wood comes from local, sustainably managed forests. Our SU collection by Nendo features reclaimed barn wood, sourced from old barn buildings in Pennsylvania. Crafted into unique seats by our Amish neighbors, the wood carries signs of its past life such as faint traces of paint or wormholes.

Accoya is a sustainable wood that can also be used outdoors. We use it as a table top option for all our tables. Accoya is a modified wood made from a fast-growing pine, grown in managed forests. The wood is treated in a non-toxic acetylation process (a bit like pickling) that makes it durable, rot-resistant and dimensionally stable. Accoya is a fully circular material, Cradle to Cradle certified. It's also FSC certified and VOC Clean Air Gold. In other words: a natural Emeco material.
