Recycled PET (rPET)

Polyethylene Terephthalate, or PET, used in billions of plastic bottles every year, is probably the most common plastic on earth. Our goal is to keep it out of landfills and oceans by turning it into timeless, well-built products that people want to keep for a long time - the opposite of disposable. In 2010, we partnered with Coca-Cola to upcycle consumer waste into a classic, sustainable chair. The result: 111 Navy chair, made from at least 111 recycled plastic bottles. And we've improved our material and process since then - today we use around 150 bottles for each chair.

Towards a circular future

The 111 Navy chair is a story of innovation - and determination. It took four years of engineering, new science and a lot of hard work. But it was well worth the time. Every year, we keep millions of waste plastic bottles out of landfills and oceans. What's more, we've continued to engineer and improve the material so that it can now be 100% recycled, without loss of strength. Meaning we can turn old chairs into new chairs. On and on. A step on our path towards a circular future.
